Today's scripture says, "Jesus is the first fruit of the resurrection." Then we will be made alive like Jesus. Of course, there were two persons in the bible who did not experience death and went to the kingdom of heaven. Those were Enock and Elijah. But they were not resurrected from death. They only did not experience death. But Jesus overcame death. That is, there is no resurrection in the life of Enock and Elijah. But there is resurrection in Jesus' life.
And there were some persons in the bible who were resurrected from death. Those were Lazarus, and the son of the widow of Nain city, the daughter of Jairus the synagogue ruler, and Tabitha. But their resurrections are different from the resurrection of Jesus. They were resurrected to the same physical bodies that are destined to die again. But Jesus was resurrected to the spiritual body that is never to die again.
And their resurrected bodies feel cold and hot, and their bodies are under the limit of time and place, and their bodies are under the temptation of sins. But Jesus' resurrected body is free from the limit of time and place, and his body is free from the temptation of sins.
Therefore the resurrection of Jesus is the first in the human history. It is the miracle of miracles and mystery of mysteries. Modern medical science cannot imitate the resurrection of Jesus even though it can clone human beings.
Bible tells us many times about the resurrection of Jesus. And bible emphasizes that all believers have to have the faith of resurrection. That is, we have to believe the resurrection of Jesus, and we have to spread the resurrection, and we have to expect the resurrection like Jesus.
Brothers and sisters, it is really dream that our bodies are immortal, and that we can go anywhere without the time machine, and that we can live without foods, without sleep, without going to toilet, and that we are completely free from sins.
The day of resurrection is the day that our dream comes to reality, and the day that we can go anywhere we want, and the day that we live forever, and the day that we can say, "Good bye, diet forever !", and the day that we don't need to worry what to eat, what to drink, what to wear, and the day that we can get perfect joy and perfect happiness.
No one on earth can have the beautiful and healthy body like our resurrected bodies. No one can be rich like us on the day of resurrection. No one can be good and righteous like us on the day of resurrection. No one can be happy like us on the day of resurrection. On the day of resurrection, angels will say to us, "How happy you are ! I envy you !" The apostle also confessed, "I want to attain to the resurrection from the dead." (Phil 3:11)
The day of resurrection is the day that we change to the completely different beings like a caterpillar changes to a beautiful butterfly, and the day that we recover the garden of Eden, and the day that we are free from diseases and death, and the happiest day that the universe dances and rejoices with us.
The day of resurrection is the day that the devil and the demons completely go away from us, and the day that we do not hate each others but love and thank each others, and the day that we receive rewards for our efforts from our God.
But if they are not resurrected, they will be unhappiest and most miserable men, and they will weep bitterly forever, sigh forever. But if we are resurrected, we will be rich forever, happy forever, and we will be kings with Jesus forever.
In Korea, there is a song titled, "We will come again on the sunny day.", and there is a proverb, "Sometime sun shines into the mousehole. (Every dog has his day.)" The sunny day for believers is the day of resurrection. The day of resurrection is the day that our hope is fulfilled, and the day that earth and universe are full of love. Therefore we expect and shout with joy, "We will be resurrected !"
Brothers and sisters, as you know, the cold of late winter lingered in Calgary this year. Because of the coldness, I had no mind to go out, nor to go shopping, nor to drive, nor to barbecue at all. Sometimes I felt that hatred came into my mind toward Calgary because of coldness. The winter of this year in Calgary was really cruel to me because I am very sensitive to coldness.
But spring will come to us in Calgary. Good season will come to us. Ice and snow will melt. Green leaves and grasses will come out. When the day of resurrection comes to us, our frozen heart will be melted, hatred will be melted away, and the green bud of love and thank will sprout.
Therefore expect the spring of resurrection. And sing the song of resurrection. And thank God for giving us resurrection. And give glory to Jesus who suffered and died in order to give us resurrection.
Brothers and sisters, on this Easter Sunday, we believe that Jesus was resurrected from the dead. He descended into the tomb, but came out of the tomb. Jesus is not in the tomb any longer. Jesus resisted and overcame the darkness of death by the light of life. Devil overjoyed for a while because he killed Jesus. But Jesus broke the head of the devil.
The resurrected Jesus is here with us. The resurrected Jesus rule over our church, so that our church will get victory. Sometimes the cold of late winter comes to our family or our church. And we shrink back for a while. But the spring of resurrection will come to us just spring comes to Calgary.
Therefore on the day of resurrection, we can be happy, and we will shine brighter than sun shines. And our brightness will be forever because the resurrected Jesus is with us forever and ever.
