  • Event Profile

    An Explosive Event

For the first time ever, Calgary is host to a world-class fireworks competition and multicultural celebration. Modelled after Vancouver's Celebration of Life and Toronto's Symphony of Fire, the Calgary festival celebrates music, lights and culture with two festivals in one: the Calgary International Fireworks Competition and One World Festival.

The fireworks competition features pyrotechnic artists from Canada, Mexico, and the United States including Ken Julian (U.S.), Jorge Mauro Marquez Marquez (Mexico) and Brad Dezotell (Canada) who light up the night sky with 20-minute explosive masterpieces synchronized to music at Elliston Park Lake in Forest Lawn.

The One World Festival adds a multicultural flavour to the event with pavilions showcasing the sight, sounds and rich heritage of the country and culture they represent. Housed in gyms and community centres, the pavilions include Chile, Ireland, India, the Middle East, Africa, Canada's Metis people, and more offering music, entertainment and food before the 9:30 p.m. nightly fireworks display.

The final night of the event features the grand finale with an awards ceremony and a final spectacular light show.

Proceeds from the fireworks competition go to the United Way of Calgary and Area.
