I am the way and the truth and the life.

John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life.
One day Jesus said to his disciples, "I am going to my Father's house. You know the way to the place where I am going." (John 14:2,4)
Then Thomas said to Jesus, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way ?" (John 14:5)
Then Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)
Jesus did not say to them, "I will lead (introduce, teach) you to the way, to the truth and to the life." Jesus is not the teacher or the founder of the religion 'Christianity' who teaches us only the way, the truth and the life. He himself is the way. And he himself is the truth. And he himself is the life.
If we lose Jesus, it means we lose the way, the truth and the life. And if we lose Jesus, what will happen to us ? Let me tell you about it.
In 1883, Korean Air Lines 747 was bound for Seoul from Anchorage. Saddest to say, the plane was shot by the missile of USSR, so that 269 passengers were killed. Why did this terrible accident happen ? It was because the plane lost the flight route.
As you know, there are the ways (routes, roads, courses, track) for cars (ships, airplanes, trains) If they lose or leave the way, something bad happens.
Let me tell you another terrible accident. In 1994, 300 passengers were killed, and 147 passengers were wounded in Angola because of the train accident. Why did this accident happen ? It was because the train derailed.
Likewise if we leave the way Jesus, something terrible happens to us. Let me tell you a story. When I was in 20's, I met a young man in the Dae Heung Presbyterian church in Seoul.
He told me his experience. One day he attended the revival meeting, where he experienced that his spirit was apart from his body for a day. At that time he found himself walking on the road. And there were so many people walking on the same road.
He asked the man who was before him, "Where are you going ?" The man answered, "I don't know. I am just going because you are pushing me."
He asked another man who was behind him, "Where are you going ?" The man answered, "I don't know. I am just going because the person who is behind me is pushing me."
He saw millions of people who were walking and walking on the same road. But all of them did not know where they were going.
All of sudden he heard a screaming sound ahead of him. He looked up and saw that the persons who were ahead of him were falling off a cliff with a screaming sound. He was really surprised because there was full of flames below the cliff.
When he woke up, he thought that the way is the way to the hell. And he thought, "Oh, I has to leave this way right now, and take the way to the kingdom of heaven !"
Brothers and sisters, many people do not know which way they are going on. But in the near future, when they die, they will know the way is the way to the hell. But unfortunately when they realize it, it is too late.
Therefore today Jesus said to us, "I am the way to the kingdom of heaven. Leave the way to the hell. And take the way to the kingdom of heaven. If you believe me, you can come to the kingdom of heaven through me."
And in today's scripture Jesus said, "I am the truth." Pontius Pilate killed Jesus, the truth. And he perished because he did not know the truth.
He asked Jesus, "What is truth ?" (John 18:38) What a ignorance ! And what a tragedy ! He did not know that Jesus is the truth itself. That's why he perished. But we know the truth Jesus, the Son of the living God.
And if we know Jesus the truth, we can know that God the Father created the heavens and earth and humans, and God sent his only Son Jesus to save us. And when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide us into all truth. (John 16:13).
Jesus said to us, "Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32). Jesus has come to this world to set us free from the course of the devil. Therefore if we come to Jesus, we can be free from the heavy burden and stress because he gives us rest.
But the devil the father of lies comes to shackle us with his deceits and lies. If someone apart from Jesus, it means he is apart from the truth, and he is being deceived by the devil, and the man will lose real freedom, real peace and rest.
I want you to turn your back on the devil. And I want you to come to Jesus, so that you may be free from the stress and heavy burden. And I want you to take rest in the truth.
Today Jesus also said, "I am the life." Brothers and sisters, what do you think is the most important. People think money is most important. But "What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeit his soul ? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul ?" (Matthew 16:26)
As you know, the criminal under sentence of death desperately needs life above all things. Likewise, we who were under the sentence of eternal death need eternal life. But who can give us eternal life ? Only Jesus can give us eternal life because he is the life itself.
Therefore Jesus said, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy ; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (John 10:10) And Jesus said, "The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life." (John 6:63)
Jesus never conducted funeral service in his public life. He gave life to the dead man Lazarus, and to the daughter of Jairus the synagogue ruler and to the son of the widow living in Nain. And Jesus resurrected from the death because he is the life itself.
Few days ago I read the story of Joo Il Lee, the most famous comedian in Korea. Few months ago, the doctor told him that he has the terminal lung cancer, and the modern medical science cannot heal him.
He immediately quit smoking. And he deeply regrets that he smoked. He once followed the Buddhist monk in order to be healed by him. But Joo Il Lee confessed, "It really hurt my health more and more." Now he in his bed, waiting for the moment of death.
Brothers and sisters, bible says "Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgement." which means eternal death. (Hebrews 9:27)
You and I, and all of the people need the life, not the momentary life but the everlasting life. Never forget ! Jesus is the life. He gives us the eternal life.
Bible says, "In him was life." (John 1:4) And in today's scripture Jesus says, "I am the way and the truth and the life !" Amen !
