There is no fear in love.
1 John 4:16-21
There is no fear in love. Perfect love drives out fear just as light drives out darkness. A baby was walking along the railway. Suddenly a train was coming toward the baby. At that moment the mother ran into the train and took her baby out of the railway and she was killed by the train. Why she did like this? Because she had no fear. Because she loved her baby.
Likewise perfect love drives out fear. The bravest man in the world is the man who love perfectly. What should we love to drive out fear? Today I want to share God's grace as we look at this.
1. There is no fear in him who loves God.
Psychologists say : There is 75 kind of fears. But there is no fear in him who concentrates on something or someone and loves it. They say : Dogs can hear the beat of human heart. Dogs attack the man whose heart is beating with fear. Dogs do not attack the man who has no fear.
There is no fear in him who loves God because God has no fear. God drives out fear. Let's take a look at David. There was a battle between Israelites and Philistines. As you know Goliath is the champion of the fighting. Israelites was were dismayed and terrified. But David had no fear.
David said to Goliath, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied."(1 Samuel 17:45)
David had no fear. Why? Because he loved God. David knew that God would fight against Goliath. Right! God is for us. Paul said, "What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?"(Romans 8:31)
2. There is no fear in him who loves his mission.
Some people live for only their living. But some people live for their mission. Finding your mission is more important than your birthday because mission makes you a new man. Paul had no fear when he spread Gospel because he realized his mission and he loved his mission.
Paul confessed, "And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me--the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace."(Acts 20:22-24)
Paul really had many troubles. But he had no fear because he loved his mission. Let's look at his confession. "I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers."(2 Corinthians 11:23-28)
3. There is no fear in him who loves someone.
A farmer had a hen and her baby chicks. In the midnight the farmer heard the hen screaming severely. The farmer went out to look at that. A raccoon dog came in the fence and attacked her chicks. The hen gathered her chicks under her wings and was eaten by the raccoon dog. The hen could run away. But she did not run away because she loved her chicks.
We can look at this kind of scenes in the kingdom of animals. Parents animals fight for their babies even if their enemies are much stronger. It is because perfect love drives out fear. This is same in human life. Decades years ago, there are many windows in Korea. But the widows raised her children very well. It is because she loved her children.
Today's scripture says, "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."(1John 4:18)
Is here anyone who has fear in this foreign country? Please check these. Do I love God? Do I love the mission? Do I love someone? I pray that you will overcome the fear with love.
